Balancing Creativity, Family, and Passion Projects

As someone who thrives on creativity and flourishes in an ever-changing environment, my current on-call period as a birth photographer has been a whirlwind of activity. With an expected due date just around the corner, the anticipation is palpable, and the sense of responsibility is immense. Yet, amidst all this excitement, I've found time to immerse myself in a myriad of tasks that feed both my soul and skills.

Embracing the On-Call Lifestyle

Being on-call means staying closer to home, a shift from my usual schedule that sees less travel and more focus on nearby opportunities. This change reminds me a bit of the lockdown period, where restrictions led us to appreciate the little things in life. The slowed pace allows for introspection and the chance to engage deeply with activities that often get sidelined during busier times.

My days have been bookended by sessions of photo editing, meticulously bringing two gallery sessions to life. Editing offers a delightful balance of technical skill and artistic expression, allowing me to refine and present the unique stories captured through my lens. Each image is a canvas, capturing emotions that words often cannot convey, and tailoring these moments for my clients is a deeply satisfying process.

The Joy of Gardening & Creative Home Projects

In between editing sessions, I find solace in my garden. Gardening is not just a hobby for me; it's a passion that allows me to connect with nature and cultivate beauty in my own backyard. Watching my vegetables and flowers grow is a reminder of the cycle of life, patience, and nurturing. The colors and textures of my garden often inspire my photography, and I relish every moment spent with my hands in the soil.

My creative exploits don't stop at photography and gardening; I also embarked on a home project by building two small sofas from recycled pallets for our patio. This project was a labor of love, transforming ordinary materials into cozy spaces for relaxation. Painting my raised beds and decking added a splash of fresh color, breathing new life into our outdoor area just in time for spring.

Family Celebrations and Milestones

Family life is always bustling, and this week marked a special occasion: my son's 10th birthday. We celebrated with a "painting party," where each family member expressed their creativity on small canvases just for him. His current passion for painting landscapes made this the perfect theme. I even baked his birthday cake, making sure it was as delightful to the eyes as it was to the taste buds. Seeing his joy was truly the highlight of my week.

Continuous Learning

Even with all these activities, I never miss an opportunity to learn and grow as a photographer. I constantly indulge in reading, exploring new techniques, and finding inspiration to enhance my skills. This dedication to continual learning not only enriches my work but also keeps me enthused about capturing life’s most precious moments.

In essence, this on-call period has been a blend of anticipation, creativity, and cherished moments with family. While it brings a change in pace akin to the quieter times of lockdown, it allows me to embrace the beauty in every aspect of life, from professional to personal. As I await the call to capture the beginning of a new life, I hold close the moments that make my life uniquely fulfilling.
