When this beautiful human first reached out, I almost said no.
Not because I didn’t want to photograph her, but because she lived too far from me. The session wasn’t even near my usual area in South London, not Beckenham, not Bromley, but something about her message made me pause.
She told me about her vision. About the soft, simple dress her mum had made just for the session. And about her garden, a woodland that glowed with golden light in the late afternoon.
That was it. I couldn’t resist.
It took a few weeks to plan this session. We both wanted the perfect day for that golden hour glow. We scheduled a date, then watched the forecast like hawks... the day before, and again on the morning of the shoot. I used my golden hour app to check the exact time the light would spill through the trees in her location ( Thank you App Store), just to be sure it would be as magical as we imagined. So I packed my camera, took the long drive, and arrived just before sunset. No studio lights, no backdrops, no assistants. Just her, her bump, the whisper of the trees, and the kind of light that makes you stop breathing for a second. Her husband stood quietly a few steps behind, too shy to be in the photos.
“This is for me and my baby,” she said. And she was right. Because maternity photography isn’t just about pretty pictures. It’s about remembering who you were before everything changed.
It’s about slowing down long enough to feel what’s coming, that quiet anticipation, that fierce softness.
That evening, the light wrapped around her like a promise. And I knew, as I clicked the shutter, that this was one of those rare sessions where everything aligns...the place, the story, the emotion.
When I edited these photos, I wanted them to feel like a little pocket of magic. Full of texture, a touch of grain, and that moody atmosphere that still lets the light breathe through. Because that’s how it felt in that woodland... quiet, honest, and a little bit timeless.
