A New Season, New Beginnings
There’s something about September that always feels like a deep breath out. The air shifts, evenings get softer, and the first hints of autumn appear in the trees. For me, it’s one of the most inspiring times of the year.
As a maternity and newborn photographer here in Beckenham, Bromley and across London, I notice how this season holds a quiet kind of magic. The light turns golden earlier in the day, which makes photographs glow in a way summer can’t quite manage. It’s the perfect backdrop for maternity sessions, that mix of warmth and a little bit of crispness in the air.
And of course, September is just the beginning of the “Ber months.” September, October, November, December ...each carrying its own energy. Families start planning ahead, especially if a baby is due this autumn or winter. These months have a way of reminding us how quickly time moves, how fleeting those first days with a newborn really are.
A little update from me
Right now, I’m on-call for a first-time mum ... both as her photographer and doula. We’ve planned a beautiful home birth set up, and I’ve been given the green light to share her birth pictures once it unfolds, which is so exciting. Birth is honestly my favourite thing to photograph. I know I say that all the time, but it’s true. The unplanned, the unexpected, the raw emotion. My adrenaline always goes high because I don’t want to miss a single second, especially that fraction of a moment when a baby goes from being half in the world to fully in their mother’s arms. After years of experience, I’ve learned how to stay calm in that rush, and to honour every detail of it.
While waiting for that call, I’ve also been working on other beautiful sessions. A returning client invited me to photograph their new baby girl, which was so special. Seeing the little boy I photographed six years ago now grown up felt surreal... like time folding in on itself.
I also welcomed a glowing mama-to-be into my home studio for a maternity session. She was radiant, truly goddess-like, just weeks away from meeting her baby. The best part? I’ll also be photographing her newborn session once her little one arrives. I can’t wait to share those images soon.
Honestly, this on-call period has been full, busy and bursting in the best way possible. Exactly how I like it.
Looking ahead
My September and October calendar is already filling quickly, so if you’re expecting in the coming months, now is a wonderful time to get in touch. Whether it’s a cozy in-home newborn session in London or a maternity shoot here in Beckenham, I’d love to create something meaningful for you.
So here’s to September. To fresh starts, golden light, and all the tiny beginnings waiting to be photographed.
